Much as it's a relief to be able to pack away our winter woollies, there is no denying that the thought of donning a swimsuit or bikini can be some women's worst nightmare.

Whether it's bloating caused by fluid retention or excess gas, follow these simple rules to banish the belly bloat this summer:
- Cut the salt. Foods high in sodium can encourage the body to retain fluid. Season your food with pepper or fresh herbs instead.
- Stay hydrated. If your body is thirsty it will retain water. Try to drink between 8 - 12 glasses of water a day to help rid the body of toxins that can also cause bloating.
- Stop chewing gum. When you chew gum you automatically inhale excess air that can cause bloating. Freshen your breath with a digestible mint instead.
- Avoid fizzy drinks. The gas used to carbonate drink ends up directly in your stomach. Drink flavoured water or low sugar fruit squash instead.
- Consider a natural approach. Herbs such as artichoke and turmeric may help maintain a healthy digestive system.
