Try these simple hints and tips from memory expert Dominic O'Brien and our herbal expert Serene Foster to help make forgetting a thing of the past
Whether it's tiredness, a sign of your age or just information overload, when it comes to remembering the simple things in life we can all struggle from time to time.
Try these simple hints and tips to help make forgetting a thing of the past;
- If you don't have a pen and paper handy, make use of the reminder function on your mobile to jot down important information
- When meeting new people, try saying their name three times under your breath to help commit their name to your memory and avoid future embarrassment
- Don't forget to give your brain a workout. Try brushing your teeth with the opposite hand to normal to help keep your brain on its toes
- Consider a herbal supplement such a ginkgo biloba which may help maintain short term memory by maintaining a healthy circulation to the extremities including the brain
- Regular stretching exercises can help boost the blood flow through to your hands and feet and help you feel energised, so try doing some simple stretches after a gentle warm up in the morning to get you going through the day. Yoga and Pilates are particularly effective ways of improving blood flow - why not ask about classes at your local gym?
- It might be cold outside, but a brisk walk can do wonders for your circulatory wellbeing. Just a 20 minute trip to the shops and back is enough to get the blood pumping, so park the car and get strolling. And if you're bored, why not persuade a friend to go with you so you can walk and talk - you'll both benefit in the end!
- If you don't own your own dog, then why not offer to take your neighbour's for a walk? Dog walking is a great way to get the blood flowing and playing "fetch" can be a circulation-boosting exercise in itself. Just don't lose the ball!
