Try these tips to help your memory with a healthier diet
As the saying goes - you get out, what you put in. We all know how important it is to eat a healthy, balanced diet to maintain overall health and well being. But did you know certain foods may help maintain your brain health, which in turn may lead to improved memory function.

Don't leave a 'whole' in your memory
Eat plenty of wholegrain foods such as cereals, wholemeal bread, brown rice or whole-wheat pasta. They are all rich in folic acid which may help maintain brain health. Simply starting the day with a bowl of cereal or swapping white bread for brown are easy ways to include wholegrain in your daily diet.
Keep your brain well-oiled
The essential omega-3 fatty acids - found in oily fish such as mackerel, sardines and anchovies are high in the fatty acids DHA and EPA which can help maintain brain health. It is recommended that adults eat two portions of fish a week - one of which should be oily.
The nuts and bolts of a healthy mind
Rich in vitamins E, B6, folic acid, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and antioxidants, a small handful of nuts as a healthy snack may be essential brain food. Avoid salted or sugared varieties which are high in calories, which outweigh the health benefits.
Colour me beautiful
Make sure your diet contains foods such as bananas, oranges, peppers and spinach. Brightly coloured fruits and vegetables contain higher levels of antioxidant vitamins A, C and E which can help maintain brain health. |
