Exercise for Free

Feeling the pinch?  No need to waste money on expensive gym memberships.  Let us show you how to keep fit for free and from the comfort of your home.
The heart is one of the most important organs of the body so it is important we all take steps to maintain a healthy heart, whatever our age and stage in life.  oldexercise
Having an active lifestyle is vital to helping maintain your heart health, but it doesn't have to mean expensive gym memberships or gruelling workouts - exercising at home can be just as effective.

  • Housework-out

  • Vacuuming the stairs, mopping the floor and cleaning the windows are all highly physical activities and great ways to get your heart racing, not to mention burn calories.  In fact vacuuming is thought to burn 193 calories per hour
  • Do the can-can

  • Tins of baked bins are not just tasty to eat; they are the ideal weight for toning your upper arms and a cheaper alternative to dumbbells.   Stand with your feet hip distance apart, lift the tins in unison straight out in front of you so they are level with your shoulders.  Slowly lower and repeat 10 times
  • How does your garden grow

  • Getting the garden packed up and ready for winter is an easy and enjoyable way to incorporate physical exercise into your daily routine.  Whether you are mowing the lawn, weeding your vegetable patch or pruning bushes all of these need the same energy requirements as other physical exercise activities such as walking, cycling, swimming and aerobics

  • Do the living room limbo

  • Workout DVDs are a great way to exercise in the comfort and privacy of your own home and at a time that suits you.  Whether its aerobics, pilates or yoga, you are sure to find a DVD that is right for you.  Why not enter our competition for the chance to win a Hulaerobic DVD for free?
Make sure any furniture, cables and breakable objects are well out of way to prevent injury or damage to them or yourself.
  • Walk the walk

  • Experts recommend we take 10,000 steps a day to help maintain a healthy heart. Try and take the stairs instead of the lift or get off the bus a stop early on your way home to help you reach your daily target.  Why not check yourself with a handy pedometer and gradually work your way up to 10,000 steps a day which could see you burn between 300 - 400 extra calories a day
