Christmas is the season of the party frock so it is unfortunate that it is also the time of year when there is no escaping the food and drink that can damage your waistline.
Just a few simple food swaps could help minimize the damage to your waistline, whilst still allowing you to enjoy the party.
• Cocktail sausages are often made from low quality meat and so high in saturated fat. Opt for chicken satay instead, but go easy on the peanut sauce
• Crisps and dips are everywhere at this time of year. Dip carrot and celery sticks instead, go for yogurt based dips such as as tzatziki and steer clear of the houmous or guacamole
• Salted, sugared or roasted varieties of nuts can undo all the nutritional goodness of this tasty snack, so only indulge if they are in their natural form. Alternatively stick to the olives which are low in fat and count towards one of your five a day
• Mince pies combine sugar, alcohol and full fat pastry all in one so it’s no surprise they are laden with calories. Why not have a slice of chocolate log instead that will satisfy your sweet craving, but with fewer calories and less fat |
